Daddy, what does pensive mean?

On Saturday we went to James' third birthday party. It was the first time Mavis had been to a birthday party, and the face painting made her very pensive. 

Grace helps Mavis with her socks & expounds upon the beauty of pink. Mavis remains unconvinced but is wondering about Grace's fine red moustache. 

Grace & Ben (brother & sister) go at the wishbone from the turkey that Jeff saved for them. Afterwards, we explained to them what soaking in vinegar does to bones... 

Mavis meets cousin Sarika. Mavis' mom took care of Sarika when she was just 6 months old & introduced her to ice, eating it that is. Sarika agreed not to experiment on Mavis in the same way. 

Like I said, Mavis loves her winter coat. The concept of winter is new to her. 

Mavis was thrilled with the opportunity to wear her winter coat. It snowed in Salt Lake City the morning she left, but she didn't really notice. 

Mavis' uncle Tim & cousin Grace were basking in their glow. I explained to Mavis that most Seattlites love the sun when they see it. 

Auntie Julie was loving on Mavis. Clearly Mavis was loving on Julie in return. 

Mavis' uncle Jim hasn't lost his touch with the babies, even though his youngest of 3 babies is 14. I reassured Mavis that even though her forehead looks like his, she will get more hair eventually. 

Mavis' cousin Laura flexes her biceps while bouncing Mavis, & tells her all about going to state for gymnastics. Mavis responds by trying to insert her fist into her mouth. 

Thanksgiving: turkey with her mama's people

Mavis doesn't quite compare to the 23 pound Thanksgiving turkey--but just wait until next year! 

Zed the ghost dog isn't sure what the fuss is about, but he hates him a Mean Eyed Cat. 

Mavis gets ready to go see "Walk the Line", the new movie about one of her favorite musicians, Johnny Cash. 

I'm just chilling, watching some football, sitting back in my phat Bumbo chair, holding my head up all by myself.  

Mavis at 3 months

Can you believe how big Mavis is now!?! She's nearly 3months old now. I love to compare this picture to the one taken August 14th, where she's yelling "wake up smiley" at her bear who was then bigger than her. How things change. 

While some have commented, upon seeing this picture, that the cow costume is on the wrong person, what's really important is that you check out that cute tail. 

Mavis doesn't quite understand Halloween yet, she didn't believe her daddy as he was explaining how you get all that free candy. Of course, she doesn't understand candy yet either.

Mavis' first Halloween, look how happy she is to be a calf. 

The babies LOVE Carrie Contey. We had a wonderful dinner Friday night, a reunion of our prenatal parenting class. From left to right: Mavis, 12 weeks; Loretta, 10 weeks; Ellie, 5 weeks. Hmmm.... 

Weeble wobbles wobble but they don't fall down; down onto the quilt Mavis' grandma had made for her, with her name on it, as someone's finger is pointing out in the photo. 

Mavis & Nadine get down, on the floor that is. 

Mavis recently met her 93 year old great grandmother Nadine; as you can see, they were very formal & shook hands. 

Finally, Loretta decided she'd had enough & was ready to go. "But Please stay" Mavis pleaded. Loretta agreed to come by another day. 

Loretta came by to see Mavis the other day, Mavis was so happy to see her she just wouldn't stop talking. Loretta couldn't get a word in edgewise.
