Susan is SO cool!

Saturday, Mavis was able to last until 7 o'clock -- long enough to let Dad see Silversun Pickups. Thanks, Mavis! But our big thanks go to Susan, who volunteered to babysit so Mom and Dad could head back downtown to see Prescott Curlywolf and Fivehead. Mavis loved sleeping in Susan's arms. (Coincidentally, Susan also knitted the sweater Mavis is wearing in the picture below!) Posted by Picasa

More SXSW

This one is from the Porchlight Pop Festival. Mavis was a real trooper on Saturday. After a late (well, 9 pm...) night at the Roseanne Cash concert, she was ready to go again the next day, and lasted through 8 bands at Porchlight. Her favorite was Swearing at Motorists. She was completely intrigued with their lead singer. Also, I'm sure that everyone will be glad to see that Mavis was wearing proper (though a little large) ear protection. Posted by Picasa

Mavis loves Mexican food--if not yet, she will soon

In between SXSW parties on Friday, Mavis went with her parents to her first Mexican restaurant. She loved sitting in the highchair, but wasn't very interested in the avacado or refried beans. We'll wait until later to try the jalepeno. You can kind of see her battle scar on her left cheek from when she took that face dive the day before. Poor baby. Posted by Picasa

Mavis does SXSW

On Thursday, Mavis attended her first SXSW (pronounced: south by southwest) music party. SXSW is the annual HUGE weeklong music festival in Austin (www.sxsw.com). Her parents have been cheapskates for years & eschewed buying the wristband for "official showcases" in favor of attending myriad free parties all week with lots of great bands. Many of these free parties are very baby-friendly, as Mavis can verify. Although in this picture, she is a bit put-out, not because she didn't like the music, but because the friendly little girl behind her is getting a bit too close for her comfort--Mavis has some well-established stranger anxiety. And of course, Mavis' cool friend Loretta was at this party on Thursday, wearing the onsie for a compilation CD of cool songs meant for babies & their parents, one of which her daddy's band, the Meat Purveyors, sings. Check out www.bloodshotrecords.com/album/bloodshotrecordscompilations/131
As you can see, Mavis is really good at sitting up by herself now. Although, moments after this picture was taken, she did a face dive & scratched her face pretty good. Posted by Picasa

Mavis & Loretta

A few weeks ago, Mavis saw her friend Loretta at a BBQ. Even though Loretta is 16 days younger, she was giving Mavis some advice about tummy time. As you can see, Mavis tends to lay down on the job. Posted by Picasa

Elton vs. Mavis, Part II

I found this picture of Elton John, and I just had to repost this one so that you could see the remarkable resemblance. Posted by Picasa

Mavis Loves to Ride

This is a little rocking horse that I bought/made for her. I picked it up at a yard sale, and at the time it was painted brown, purple, pink, yellow and red. A bit ugly, to say the least. So, I stripped and sanded it, painted parts and stained others, added a mane, tail, googly eyes, and some cast iron stars and horseshoes. Then upholstered the saddle with real leather. Mavis doesn't quite know what to think of it yet, but I suspect she will love it soon. Posted by Picasa

It's the frog bouncer! Much like the ones you see in parks, but it's infant size. We bought it long before Mavis was born, and she's just now getting to the point where she can sit in it. She loves to throw herself backwards and make it bounce wildly. Posted by Picasa
