Cutie Bug

Mavis loves sitting in her Bumbo chair. She can kind of sit up by herself, for 10-60 odd seconds before she throws herself backwards, so we still use the Bumbo lots. Here she is modeling the wonderful sweater her mom's friend Susan knitted her. It's just her color. Posted by Picasa

Mavis didn't mind the cap at all, as you can see, she was busy reading the summary on the wall about infants learning sign language, which concluded (no surprise) that girl babies could learn signs faster than boy babies. Posted by Picasa

Mavis the Infant Scientist

Mavis helped out some University of Texas researchers on Valentines Day by letting them put this funny hat on her & doing an EEG on her while she looked at photos of people. Something about the areas of the brain that respond to different images as compared to adults...They said the radiation dose she recieved was harmless (KIDDING!) Posted by Picasa

Mavis is sleepy at 6 months

This picture was taken on Mavis' actual half birthday, February 9th (right before bedtime). She weighed in at an impressive 16 pounds, 1 ounce--although she feels much heavier. She measured 26 1/2 inches, which was a bit perplexing, as she'd measured 27 inches at 4 months. The doctor thought it more likely due to user error at 4 months, rather than Mavis having actually shrunk. As you can see, Mavis was relieved to hear that. Posted by Picasa

Mavis is 1/2 year old.

Mavis officially turned 6 months old on Thursday. To celebrate, she got three vacinations. And you thought only us old folks dreaded birthdays. Anyway, to try to make things up, the three of us had a little party, and I made 1/2 of a birthday cake to celebrate her 1/2 year birthday. Posted by Picasa

Mavis was much more interested in this birthday cake than the one we had on the day she was born. As you can see, Mom had to hold back her hands to keep her from grabbing that bright shiny thing. And to make matters worse, Mavis STILL didn't get to eat any of the cake. I think she still had a good time, though. After she blew out the candle, she seemed to have quite a fun time playing in her swing while Mom and Dad ate cake. Posted by Picasa

Mavis' first hike

About 2 weeks ago, Mavis & her parents & her dog Zed went on a hike to McKinney Falls State Park. It was her first time in the backpack carrier & she looooved it. It was a typical January day in Austin, Texas: about 75 degrees & a beautiful sunny blue sky. Zed enjoyed leading his pack, scouting for danger both on the trail & in the river. He nearly slipped off the smooth limestone at the lower falls & would have fallen 25 feet into the pool below.

Mavis wants to share her carrots with you...where are you going??? Posted by Picasa

Mmmmm....

Mavis loves her some carrots. And peas, and sweet potatoes and acorn squash. And her daddy, as you can see. Her mommy swears she hasn't started brainwashing her about becoming a vegetarian...yet. Posted by Picasa

Mavis & Great Granny, getting in good with Grandpa

It's kind of hard to tell from the picture, but Mavis is trying to get in good with her grandpa by wearing an Oklahoma State Univerisity outfit. He was duly impressed. Posted by Picasa

Mavis got lots of good books for Christmas, as you can see, she loves Runny Babbit, while her parents seem to prefer The Night Before Christmas. Silly parents. Posted by Picasa

Mavis doesn't want to leave the Christmas tree, she doesn't see why she has to go into the other room to watch everyone (but her) eat ymmy Christmas dinner. Just wait til next year Mavis. Posted by Picasa

Mavis is emabarassed, Great Granny Nadine is drawing attention to her butt. "Now everyone is looking at my butt!" she said, & tried to hide. She doesn't have any idea how much we all love her baby butt in the satin short pants that make her really slippery to hold onto. Posted by Picasa

Mavis thinks her dress tastes better than it looks. She also apparantly has the best tasting toes in town, with or without shoes. Posted by Picasa

Mavis & Myrna (aka Great 1) share a joke. Mavis never would tell us what was so funny. Posted by Picasa

Mavis & her Great 1 & Great 2

Mavis' Greats 1 & 2 (Great Aunt Myrna, who is holding Mavis, & Great Aunt Montez, who is holding Mogu) gave her the Mogu Joy for Christmas. At Christmas time Mogu was bigger than Mavis, by now however, they're about neck & neck. Mavis likes what Mogu Joy has to say: stay positive, tell a joke, laugh often, enjoy life, make her smile, you bring me joy, celebrate, be happy... (see www.mogu.com/newmogu/catalog/index.jsp?cat_id=10130) Posted by Picasa

Mavis thanks her great granny Nadine for the beautiful Christmas dress. Mavis was hands down the best dressed there. Posted by Picasa

The next day Mavis couldn't wait to tell Grandma that it was Christmas! They talked all about it in the sunroom, next to the Christmas tree. Mavis likes Christmas trees, Christmas lights, Christmas presents... Posted by Picasa

On Christmas Eve Mavis had a great time with Grandpa (while mom took a nap, yeah!), he told her secrets about what Santa brought everyone for Christmas. She later fell asleep before it was time to open presents, & was very mad that her parents opened them for her. She only had one or two, you know. Posted by Picasa

Finally, what Mavis did for Christmas

Mavis has been having some technical difficulties with her computer, but her daddy wrestled it back into submission. Mavis is so happy about that, she can finally show you what she did for Christmas.s Posted by Picasa
